The latest information on the Covid-19 pandemic in Cameroon

Covid-19

The latest information on the Covid-19 pandemic in Cameroon is encouraging. Dr Alain Georges Etoundi Mballa, Director of the fight against epidemics and pandemics at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSANTE), during the traditional press briefing relating to the epidemiological situation of the coronavirus, Thursday, October 1, 2020 in Yaoundé, cautiously states that: “The numbers show us that transmission, hospitalizations and deaths are declining. It seems that we are in control of the epidemic. Some even claim that we have conquered the epidemic. But in reality, can we get satisfaction from the numbers even if they go down? Are these falling numbers enough to console the families who mourn one of theirs who died from Covid-19? Can these hospitalizations erase the distress of children who may not be going to school this Monday because one of the parents is hospitalized with Covid-19? Let’s look at the numbers very carefully. We cannot boast of falling numbers ”. This is how the latest figures on the epidemiological evolution of Covid-19 communicated by the government indicate: 20,924 people infected since March 5, 2020, 19,440 patients cured and 420 cases of death. The cure rate is 94% and the bed occupancy rate is very low 0.9%. Around 740 people have so far been infected with the virus and are likely to transmit it again, including those who have recovered.
