Coronavirus: update on the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in Cameroon and government recommendations
The Interministerial Committee responsible for evaluating and monitoring the implementation of the government's response strategy against the Covid-19 pandemic in Cameroon met on Thursday August 13 and 20, 2020, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister (PM) head of government, Joseph Dion Ngute. The evaluation presented by, Mr. Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health (MINSANTE) indicates that of the 18,662 (+544) people infected since March 2020, there are 17,065 (+525) patients cured and 402 (+01) deaths, i.e. a case fatality rate of 2.1%. The strategy of early detection of people with Covid-19 is continuing, thanks to the deployment in the field of mobile caravans, which have already enabled more than 200,000 tests to be carried out. In addition, hydroxi-chloroquine constitutes one of the molecules retained in the treatment protocol validated by the Cameroonian scientific council. Its therapeutic effectiveness for Covid-19 patients in our country is proven, as evidenced by the cure rate of more than 91.2%. However, a scientific watch remains to be observed and a review of the various cases is underway, in order to assess the side effects of this molecule. The PM, from the Etoile Building, instructed the MINSANTE to continue the ongoing actions in terms of epidemiological surveillance and strengthening of the operational capacities of the health services involved in the fight against Covid-19. It asks municipal, administrative and police authorities to ensure the systematic wearing of protective masks in public spaces under their jurisdiction (municipal woods, places of worship, drinking establishments, markets, bus stations, slaughterhouses, etc.).
