Covid-19: transportation and tourism sectors, government assistance insurance.
Some figures and statistics in 2017 showed that the tourism sector was turning its head in Cameroon, despite the war against Boko Haram in the Far North since 2014 and security tensions in the North-West and South-West regions. As a reminder, tourism receipts amounted to 631 billion CFA francs, representing 3.2% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product), and 1.012 million visitors, which positioned our country among the “destinations of choice” . With the advent of the coronavirus pandemic, the Cameroonian tourism sector, like everywhere else in the world, is completely on its knees. The ongoing health crisis caused by the coronavirus is worsening the situation. The CHAN 2020 and CAN Total 2021 sports competitions which were to attract more tourists have been or are threatened with postponement. The government is studying the situation regarding assistance to the victims of Covid-19. Thus on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, had discussions with transport and tourism sector unions to consider economic and social measures to support the two sectors affected by the coronavirus crisis, and due to the 2013 law on incentives for private investment in Cameroon.
