Biodiversity: around 10% of plant species and 815 of wild species are threatened with extinction in Cameroon
According to statistics from the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), there are 7,850 vascular species in the country, of which 514 are found only in Cameroon. For Dr. Aurelien Dingom, Expert, "if no effort is made by our country and by the whole world by 2050, we will see the 6th extinction of some species. Although the country has the second largest forest in the Congo Basin with forests covering about 45% of the national territory, 22% of which is classified as protected areas ”. According to WWF Cameroon Conservation Director, Mr. Gilles Etoga, "we must first know the potentials that we have in the countries and know the threats to this biodiversity". The Decentralized Territorial Collectivities (CTD) could be the last ramparts for the conservation of plant, wild and floral species and mangrove ecosystems.
